MAYFLOWER TEAM
Greice Zagray
Earning a Bachelor's Degree in Portuguese/English Languages and a graduate degree in Brazilian Literature from UNI-BH Centro Universitário de Belo Horizonte in MG, Brazil, ESL instructor Greice Zagray is a licensed educator and her diploma is recognized by the Ministry of Education.
Following her move to the United States in 2002, she continued her study of the English language through additional improvement courses, including Writing Composition at Bergen Community College in New Jersey, and English as a Second Language here at Harvard in Boston.
Educating with excellence since 1998, Greice has built a robust resume of experience ranging from public schools in Brazil, where she taught high school English, to private language schools here in the United States where she has helped countless immigrants
equip themselves with the skills needed to survive and thrive. In addition to teaching in these traditional classroom environments, she has also served as an ESL instructor for students individually. She has taught Portuguese to Americans as well as English to
Brazilians – at times focusing specifically on preparing her students with the knowledge needed to pass the American citizenship test.
She has been helping immigrants speak English and live the American dream since 2002. Her teaching methodology engages her students in a wide range of language learning components. These include grammar, conversation, American history,
American culture, and the interpretation of contemporary world-relevant texts. The amalgamation of these elements promotes the student’s ability to read, write and communicate critically and effectively.
Greice’s journey as an educator culminated in 2015 with the opening of the Mayflower Language Center, a school dedicated to the inclusion of immigrants and philosophically aligned with Paulo Freire's pedagogy. As such, respect for diversity is reflected in the teaching program and parallel to the study of English, students will also learn to interpret the world around them.
Ivone Santos
Monitor Ivone Santos received her degree in Social Communication with an emphasis in Journalism from the State University of Ponta Grossa, and a graduate degree in Communication Advisory from Pontifical Catholic University in Paraná, Brazil. She began her studies of the English language while still in Brazil and then later, once relocated to the United States, sought improvement through classes at Mayflower Language Center, currently studying at the advanced level. Now she holds weekly online group tutoring sessions for beginner and intermediate level students - helping them to further understand and retain the lessons taught by their instructor. Her enthusiasm and dedication to helping the other students contributes valuably to the Mayflower Method, a teaching system where emphasis is given to the recognition of diversity so that each student may learn at their own pace and overcome individual daily challenges.
